CCE Lesson Habits of Mind

Thinking flexibly

When we were still doing the ADMT project, my team at first could not think of anything to make a product,because we thought our theme had nothing to make a product about, and that we should change the theme that we were doing.

in the end,we made a product but we regretted not thinking more flexibly when we were making the product.

if i could turn back in time I would think more flexibly like the other people who had the same theme but made better products.

My friend always try to tell me something but I just kept ignoring her. I should have listened to her and helped her if it was a difficulty. If I it happened again, I should have gave her a listening ear.

There was a time where one of my classmate teased me about my English marks being lower than his. I got really angry and I made fun of him and talked bad about him to other classmates. In the end he got really upset and cried. 

If I were to turn back time, I would have just ignored his remarks and not gang up on him.

b. My dad was scolding me over trival matters. I wanted to rebuked,shouting with vuglars and said very hurting words. After that incident, our relationship soured and didnt get better.
c.I would have not said those vuglars but would have rebuked in a nicer way.
 

Habits of Mind - Thinking Flexibly

Thinking flexibly 

I am personally a very stubborn person, and I only follow the way that I believe will work. While doing a group work with my other classmates from Primary School, I wanted others to follow the way I think would work. However when they had other ideas, I rejected all the ideas and suggestions from them. Now that I think back, I felt very bad about my attitude to others. I thought in a way where no one could change my mindset and I was not thinking flexibly enough.

If I could turn back time, I would want to be more flexible in the way I think. I want to be to accept the inputs and suggestions from others so that we could work better as a group.

1) Managing impulsivity. 2)When I was in primary school. I did not think before I act. I took my friend's pencil case and hid it behind the classroom. My friend then got worried and he complained to teacher that someone took his pencil's case. In the end, the teacher found it was me. I regretted my actions. 3) I should have think before I act. I should reconsider my actions before doing it.
Thinking flexibly 

Thinking flexibly is when you accept other ideas and not stick with only one Idea. For example, if you are in a group you have to listen to your group member. Once, I was doing a project with my group members, I listened to them and I got very good ideas.

(b) Once, when my friend had family problems and she wanted to tell me her problems but I was stressed out myself as I was busy with other things and did not want to hear her problems. So, she was angry with me and did not want to be my friend.

(c) I would try to make time to hear her problems and maybe suggest ways to help her or ask her to go to the school counsellor .

Managing Impulsivity :

An incident happened when I was in Primary 6. On 11 November, we had finished our Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE) and we were having fun. Then, my friend suddenly said to me, "Your father is dead." I was shocked and I didn't know what to do. After that, my friend said that it was just a joke. But I didn't take it as that way. I see it as an insult and a curse to my father. I didn't think through about what I was going to do. I clinched my fist and aim straight at my friends face. A shout could be heard. I was then send to the Discipline room together with my friend. We were then punished and was taught to manage impulsivity. We forgive each other but that brought an end to our friendship

If time could turn back, I wish that I had not acted impulsively. 

Persisting

One incident where i applied persistency is when i am doing my big pile of homework.While doing half-way i gave up.Thus,resulting in bad PSLE results.If i had the chance to turn back time i would have persisted and continue on to finish my homework to get a higher mark in my PSLE.

Managing Impulsivity

There was once I recalled when I had to manage impulsivity. I had reacted to a situation in such a rough way due to impulsivity.  My sister had called me in a very rude way, using the word which hurt others. I had reacted very roughly by asking her to keep quiet in a very rude way back. This ended up into a physical fight, but as an older sister, I did not stop her.

If I could turn back time, I would rather keep quiet and not hit it back to her but tell her nicely to stop or maybe to tell my parents about her bad behaviour.

Once, I had gone out to recess in primary school and left my bottle in class. When I came back, my bottle was gone. I looked around but could not find it, so I begin to panic.  At that moment, my friend came in with my bottle. I yelled at him and accused him of being a thief and stealing my bottle. This upset him and we had an argument. Luckily another classmate explained that my friend thought I forgot my bottle so he went out to find me.

If i could turn back time, I would have asked him why my bottle was with him instead of jumping to conclusions.

I played a prank on my friend and when he found out, he was very angry and shouted at me and cried after. If i could turn back time, I would have managed my impulsitivity and not played the prank.

PERSISTING

IT IS ALWAYS DURING MATH WHEN I ALWAYS DO MATH QUESTIONS ALWAYS DO THE SAME QUESTION NO MATTER HOW MANY TIMES I DO THE QUESTION.I WILL ONLY STOP UNTIL I CANNOT  GET IT WRONG.

IF I COULD TURN BACK TIME I WOULD STILL CONTINUE DOING THE MATH PROBLEM UNTIL I CANNOT GET IT WRONG.NOTHING WILL STOP ME FROM DOING THE MATH QUESTION CORRECTIONS.

b. When somebody in my primary school insult me, I insulted him twice as badly. I don't exactly what the matter was about, but I remembered I "counter-attacked" him so badly he kept quietly for a few seconds. I smoothed the awkwardness over by giving an awkward laugh and slowly walked away.

c. I would find humour in his insult, and joke about it.

       Once, I did not know how to do a question. I asked lots of people including the teacher but I still did not understand how to do it. In the end, I tried and persisted and I finally know how to do the question.

When I was Primary 5, I sat down with my friend, Joel, and we were sitting on the bench casually. Suddenly, Joel spotted an ant. He dared me to kill the ant. Being impulsive (at that time), I squished the ant. Joel just looked at me with confusion. He had said that it was just a joke. Then, I just realised that I just killed something. That was sad.

If I could turn back time, I wouldn't  kill the ant. He probably had so much more to live for.

I choose Listening and Understanding with Empathy. When my friend was in trouble, I should have listened to him and helped him instead of giving advices, although it was helpful. If I could go back in time, I would have helped him and solve his problems so that he could overcome the challenges he faced. He had problems of managing time at that moment.

Incident: There was one time (last Wednesday) where I spent all my money in one day ($13), and I had no money for the rest of the week. :(((

If i could turn back time, I should have saved the money and not spend so much of it on food ._. then I could actually have enough money for the whole week of FOOD.
